Work to begin on A34

DELAYED roadworks on the A34 are due to start on Monday, February 11.

The drains maintenance works were meant to start on January 28. The works, which are likely to take seven weeks, were delayed because of hold-ups on schemes elsewhere.

Funny, it's not! You go to Scandinavia, Holland, Germany, France and even Italy (unless another Saints Day!) and roadworks and new roads seem to get built or repaired faster than here, and without less fuss or inconvenience - or is it just Oxford which seems to alwaya be affected?

You get the impression too many Councillors have some connection to these companies outside their official duties.

The result is that, they will defend the indefensible. I recall recently, council was defending its awarding of bus contracts to a company that went under.

They ended up paying more as these contracts had to be handed to more solvent bus companies when the winner of the contracts went bankrupt.

So much for council management expertise!

I agree hp1! If it's on the stretch which is already affected by the incredibly slow repairs to the Hinksey Hill Road, then getting into Oxford from Abingdon is going to be a nightmare!! I had to leave at 06:30 this morning to get to the JRH by 07:30, and I only just made it! Getting back was even worse, with a sick child in the car.
