YOUNG musicians from Wallingford School are warming up to play jazz on a trip to Ireland.
This year Londonderry in Northern Ireland, also known as Derry, is the European City of Culture.
To celebrate, the city’s Foyle College is holding a jazz evening and has invited pupils from Wallingford to take part.
Foyle College and Wallingford School were both founded by members of the Merchant Taylors’ Company in London.
Wallingford School’s Fun Band will play on Saturday, March 9, at the Tower Hotel in Londonderry.
Wallingford School sixth former Katharine Pebworth, 17, left, from Wallingford, plays the flute and said: “I met some people from Foyle College at a dinner last term and we got on really well. I’m looking forward to meeting up with them in their own town.”
Fellow flautist Alix Stewart, 16, from Cholsey, added: “It will be good to play jazz with different people and learn from each other.”
