Warden's tales have audience hooked

FIVE-year-old Hallam Farmery learnt how to extinguish a fire in an air raid.

That is because he, his dad Brett and his big sister, Carina, were transported back to the Second World War by ‘Air Raid Precaution Warden’ Paul Thompson, centre.

Warden Thompson led the journey back in time, called ‘Put That Light Out!’ at Abingdon Museum on Saturday.

Hallam, from North Abingdon said: “The best bit was acting. We had to help pump water to put out a fire.”

He even held a real bomb, after he was reassured by Warden Thompson that it wasn’t going to go off.

Mr Farmery said: “It was very informative, and the two wardens were brilliant. They managed to capture the attention of the whole audience, from Hallam right up to a pensioner who was three in the war.”

Visitors also got to wind up a air raid siren and try on a gas mask.
