Man cut free from car after crash in Headington (From Oxford Mail)

In case anyone was wondering, it's a 20mph speed limit.

Failed to stop this accident then.

It is amazing how well the 20mph limits work. You hardly ever hear of an accident these days.

He was maybe cutting through to avoid the queue at the lights? Must have been going at more than 20 mph though, so what's the point in putting up signs without some kind of speed-bump?

'Cutting through' is an unfortunate choice of words because the fire service probably cut through his car's roof pillars to remove the roof. I believe this happens whenever there is a chance of spinal damage.

Didn't know you was there 'feelings' as you know he was cutting through and going over 20. Hope you have reported all this to the police!

The worst offenders "cutting" through there are the buses that race along and cut the corners so much that they force you onto the pavement.

Give it a rest Bart; you yourself alluded to him speeding, so you can stick your holier-than-thou comment where the sun don't shine. I've lost count of the number of boy-racers pushing their way out into traffic from Girdlestone Road.

Grunden, I would imagine the buses are following their route, not cutting through, although I agree with you that they get a bit close.

Then surely following on from your quote, normal drivers are only following their route, or is there some obscure law that I do not know about that only allows buses to drive on certain non restricted roads. To all of you who have commented you should be ashamed! As a witness from the bus that was right behind the car that crashed, the young man was not speeding at all and did nothing wrong at all. It was the other drivers fault as she admitted over and over again! Instead of criticising and writing stupid comments you should all wish that they are doing well after the accident!

Still waiting for the apology 'feelings' or are you to ashamed to admit you was wrong and bullying!

Oh give it a rest all of you; I was simply wondering whether the lad had been speeding, that's all, because I have seen so many others doing it! And no, Bart, I am not going to apologise, because you started it! Now go and write on the blackboard one hundred times "I must not make sarcastic comments on the OM website that Grunden Skip doesn't understand".
BTW, I don't know why you think I'm at risk of a coronary; I smile when I write my comments.

I mean cutting through to avoid the lights, so driving through a road which is in a residential area to avoid a traffic jam. I would say that's a bit inconsiderate towards the people who live there. True, it's not against the law, but it must annoy the locals.

Mmm where does it say I said they were speeding???? Maybe you should see a doctor.

Get a grip. So by your rationale we should all stick to A roads, and not drive on other roads that we have paid for out of our income taxes just in case we upset people that have houses there, although if your dream became a reality it would make my life on Walton Street a lot easier. No more traffic cutting through, all of it using St Giles and Woodstock road.

And Grunden, I don't understand why you're getting so agitated my dear. I'm simply saying that although OCC clearly expects us all to use the main route, some don't, and as a result the tiny roads in Headington are a nightmare to live on. As you said yourself, people sticking to A roads would make your life more pleasant. I suppose it's a case of good manors, but maybe they don't exist any more in Oxford.

It meant that the councils stupid 20mph scheme makes no difference to the accident rate.

I am not that selfish, I live on a road so I expect cars to use it, my main problem is with CYCLISTS, at least with cars when I step out of my front gate onto the pavement I know I am safe, but the times I have been nearly mown down by CYCLISTS on the pavement are too many to recall. But when Ms Fooks, our councillor for over 20 years cycles the wrong way down St Bernards Rd to get to her house what hope is there. Roads are there to be used, not owned by people that have houses alongside them, although if those people were banned from cutting through the road in which they live, now that would be fun.

I know, in the absence of knowledge lets guess and then comment on that guess as if it's fact.
