Former UKIP branch chairman stands down
11:20am Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News
Dr Julia Gasper
AN OXFORD activist alleged to have made homophobic comments has stood down from her position in UKIP.
Dr Julia Gasper, formerly chairman of the Oxford branch of the party, is alleged to have called gay rights a “lunatics charter” in an online members’ forum.
Last week the party press office said her status in the party was “under review”.
But yesterday spokesman Gawain Towler said: “Dr Gasper is no longer chair of the Oxford branch of UKIP.”
He added: “I have been told that a resignation was offered and accepted.”
Dr Gasper, who contested the Oxford East seat for the party at the last General Election, refused to comment when contacted by the Oxford Mail and asked the paper to stop calling her.
Her comments were revealed on January 12 after a national newspaper investigation.

Nobody is safe from the chop, not even Cameron if he became a burden at the ballot box. Oops I should have said safe from the chop, except Blair's lovechild "Mandy" who's had more comebacks than Rocky/
I'm grateful to Dr Gasper for pointing out the source of these allegations - the Oxford Times being rather coy as to what they were. So, I can now go off to the Mirror's site and read them, and Nigel Farrage's response:
Mr Farage said: “I have never even heard of these people. Julia Gasper is the only one... We’ve had problems with her and her position in the Oxford branch is not acceptable and is being changed. Her war against homosexuals is unacceptable.”
Much clearer now.

No comeback from that. Farage needs to urgently prove that UKIP is not full of "fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists", and that's going to be a challenge...
