Two injured in crash near Abingdon (From Oxford Mail)

Closed for four hours because of a serious foot injury? Surely that's a little excessive, especially as only one car was involved.

I hope they're both OK though. Not a great start to their new year.

The site needs to be investigated to obtain evidence and determine the cause of the incident.

This was a bad accident. Most likely caused by excessive speed as the road conditions were good this morning. This road sees far too many drivers exceeding the speed limit by a large margin. This means that they drive into and through Drayton at speed far in excess of the 30 mph limit. Anyone walking on the cycle path where that car finally ended up would have been killed or at worst seriously injured through no fault of their own. The car alighted around 100 metres on the wrong side of the road from where it first clipped the bank. The occupants of that car, from what I saw this morning should, be considering themselves to be fortunate not to have suffered even more serious injuries than one of them has been reported as having sustained. @spenbadger - ignoring, I suppose, that exceeding the speed limit was the cause of just 5% of accidents where someone was injured or killed. Driver error accounted for 72%.

Without knowing all the facts, as the car flipped it would seem very likely the accident wasn't due to exceeding the speed limit but instead due to a sudden change in direction or mechanical failure.

We need more proper policing to get useless drivers off the road, instead of nonsense like "Speed kills".

I would link driver error to excess speed - fact. . There is no doubt that a sudden change of direction occured. However it would seem that the driver was not able to control that factor and this was in all likelihood due to an excess of speed. If something broke on the car thats something that can happen to any one at any time and as safe drivers we all need to be prepared for that eventuality. It may be that a deer or other animal came off the field adjacent to that road and caused this accident for instance. The car travelled a long way from the point of first impact on the grass bank and that would seem to indicate that the vehicle was travelling at a high speed also. However and this would include me - we are not always 100% concentrating on the task at hand. Speed does kill - thats also a fact and many drivers that use that piece of road travel far in excess of the speed limit which is 50mph. They then do not slow down going into the 30mph limits at Drayton and into Abingdon. "Useless drivers" do need to be shown the error and consequence of their poor driving I agree. However I think that the police have a very difficult job to do and can only use the powers of the law as it stands. Personal responsibility and drivers upholding the law and driving within the speed limits would be a good thing.Their appeal for witnesses to this accident will probably draw a blank on this occasion

Somebody lost control of their car and broke their foot, no other injuries, serious or otherwise. All the police needed to do was tow the car away, 20 minutes delay maybe, and have it tested in a garage, and go to the hospital and breath test the driver. This culture of obtaining overtime and closing roads needs to be stopped, in every other country in the civilized world the cars are moved to the side, even in serious accidents, the road is reopened and the police carry out their investigation. For god's sake cyclists suffer far more serious injuries falling off their bike and the police don't come down mob handed and close the road. Why? because they can't get a prosecution, unlike when a motor vehicle is involved. that is the real reason for these road closures, to obtain a fine and points on somebody's licence. Is it worth the £Billions lost to the economy over the year just for that?
