PRIME Minister David Cameron and his security staff joined more than 100 runners in a muddy and wet race through West Oxfordshire yesterday.

The Great Brook Run saw participants run to and from The Tite Inn, in Chadlington, following the Coldron Brook.

The participants ran along the muddy edge of the brook on the first leg and then through the water itself on the way back.

Mr Cameron was cheered on by his wife Samantha and hundreds of residents lining the mile-long route.

The Witney MP said: “It’s a great race and a fantastic local fundraiser. This year the brook was pretty cold and crawling under the bridge was tough, but there’s a great atmosphere and the supporters and volunteer marshals were brilliant.”

James Kelly, who organises the event along with Adam Engberg, said: “David Cameron has been an absolutely fantastic supporter for us. We never know before if he is going to come but he has never let us down.”

The race was started by Olympic hockey bronze medalist Beth Storry and competitors of all ages, including some dressed as Santa, took part.

It raised more than £600 for the village’s Memorial Hall.
