SHOPPERS in Oxford flocked to the city centre to take advantage of the Boxing Day sales.

Hundreds of people packed the Cornmarket Street area, though the turnout appeared to be noticeably lower than at Bicester Village.

Among the shoppers in Oxford was 31-year-old Gareth Hughes, inset, who lives near Abingdon.

He said: “I’ve just come in to get some sale shopping in. I got some mountain biking gear and some trainers.”

Jackie Ward, 48, of Marcham, said the annual trip into Oxford on Boxing Day was a chance for her to treat herself.

She said: “It’s a family tradition and an opportunity for me to get some ‘me bargains’.

“I’ve been into Next and got a pair of knee-length boots.”
