UPDATE: Botley Road fully reopened

OXFORD'S Botley Road has reopened nearly 15 hours after a water main burst.

The road was closed between Ferry Hinksey Road and Binsey Lane while Thames Water staff fixed the five inch pipe and repaired the road surface.

Buses which had been diverted via the A34 and Abingdon Road will now resume their usual routes.

It reopened at around 12.45am today, about four hours earlier than Thames Water had predicted.

I think you mean 12.45 pm?

Accidents do happen, but I wonder if the burst water main was relatable to other work being done or recently carried out (such as gas pipes, electric cables, or domestic housebuilding) or, was it the effect of a short spell of very cold weather?

Myron it was none of the above. It was due to the lack of routine maintenance that T.W. fails carry out all over their network in the pursuit of profits for the fat cats at HQ. That is what happens when the bottom line is the most important thing in what is supposed to be a service.
