A FORMER porter of an Oxford University college has been sentenced to nine months in jail after admitting making more than 2,000 indecent images of children.

Nigel Edgington, of Crosslands Drive, Abingdon, was charged with six counts of making indecent images of children during a period of five years, from 2006 to 2011.

The 64-year-old, who worked at St Antony’s College in Woodstock Road, was also made to sign the sex offenders’ register following the sentencing at Oxford Crown Court.

Judge Mary Jane Mowat said: “You are not a hoarder but you seem to have been a compulsive viewer of child pornography for a number of years. And the additional worrying aspect of this case was that you were cautioned in 2005 for a sexual assault of a boy under 13.”

The court heard that images were found on computers from his home and from his workplace.

Graham Bennett, defending, said the “vast majority” of the images had been deleted.

Edgington, who is now unemployed, was arrested on June 5 last year for the offences.
