A host of Oxfordshire rowers will go for glory in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January.

In total, 1,700 athletes from 30 different countries will bid for glory, with Great Britain sending 20 rowers.

The GB crews will race across 12 events (six for men, six for women) with each rower racing in a maximum of three different events at the five-day festival, which runs from January 16-20.

Oxford University trio Edward Grisedale, Timothy Grant and Joe Guppy are in the men’s squad, along with Jack Beaumont, Jamie Copus and Benjamin Board, all members at the Henley-based Leander club.

Grisedale and Grant will be in the same pair, while also competing in the four and eight crews.

Grant is set to feature in the same three events.

Beaumont will take part in the single scull, quadruple scull and eight, with Copus and Board in the quadruple scull, eight and the same lightweight men’s double boat.

Anastasia Chitta, Maxie Scheske and Morgan Baynham-Williams, all members of Oxford University Women’s BC, will fly the flag for the ladies.

Chitta will compete in the pair, four and eight crew, with Scheske in the quadruple scull, lightweight double and eight – with Baynham-Williams coxing the latter.
