DISADVANTAGED children will receive at least one book for Christmas this year thanks to the generosity of Oxford shoppers.
Blackwell’s Bookshop, in Broad Street, is taking part in the Giving Tree, organised by The Children’s Society.
Names of books alongside children’s ages are put on tags on a Christmas tree, with the idea shoppers buy one of the books for a child in need.
Rebecca Waiting, manager of the store’s children’s section, said: “We’ve already doubled the number of books we were expecting to receive and we’re only three weeks in.
“People have been very supportive and everyone loves the idea.”
