Update: Botley Road/Ferry Hinksey Road lights due to come on "imminently"

SOUTHERN Electric has said power will be restored to Ferry Hinksey junction traffic lights "imminently" after the woe it has caused motorists today.

Drivers have been stuck in queues along Botley Road as problems delays caused by the temporary traffic lights installed at the junction have mounted.

The lights at the Ferry Hinksey junction were knocked out amid last week's heavy flooding and have taken four days to repair.

When pressed the energy company said it could not guarantee the lights would be restored by 3.30pm but said the power would be back on shortly.

There had been issues gaining access to equipment that needed to be fixed.

Scores of static drivers have taken to Twitter to rage at the problem.

The issues are also affecting Oxford Bus Company which has said its number 4 service is suffering due to the gridlock.

A rush-hour collision on the A420 put huge pressure on the road this morning, and the temporary lights have been blamed as the cause of long tailbacks.

Queues built up at 7.30am but the volume of traffic has not subsided.

Congestion is stretching to the B4017 Abingdon Road junction and on A44 Woodstock Road to Peartree Interchange.
