Finstock cannabis dealer gets suspended jail sentence

A DRUG dealer found with cannabis estimated to be worth more than £2,000 has been given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years.

Mark Simpson, of School Road, Finstock, was found with 191g of cannabis by police officers on May 30 this year in Hailey Road, Witney.

The 22-year-old was also found with £1,985 in cash. Simpson admitted possession of controlled drugs with intent and possession.

Sentencing, Judge Mary Jane Mowat said: “It is clear to me that you were running your own little business effectively.”

She added: “It is the law that it is illegal, like it or not.”

She passed the sentence for the possession of cannabis with intent charge and did not pass a separate penalty for the simple possession charge.

Simpson was also ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work within 12 months and told to pay £450 court costs.

Why only a suspended sentence? Magistrates are not going to deter drug pushers by soft sentencing - and from her comments wbout the criminal, I'm only suprised she didn't award him with four years on a business administration degree course, at taxpayer expense!

Wouldn't it be interesting to know how many, if any, of the 150 hours of unpaid work he actually does.

Agree, and what percentage of 'community service' is now being used as 'cheap labour' by local authorities in Oxfordshire, instead of employing people who want to work and pay their way in life? Last time I asked this of a Labour candidate in Oxford, I was told "we do support community payback for offenders, and have only made cutbacks where forced to by the Coalition government" which was odd, because several of my friends had been offered 'golden handshakes' to leave by City Council when it was down-sizing departments, a couple of years before the Coalition appeared! Talking of 'payback' I wonder if Labour gets back in government, whether it will force the banks to pay back the £billions it conned Brown into paying out - or should Brown, Balls and all the others now be doing community service, instead of still being paid as MPs?

Such is our wonderful criminal justice system (first principle; ensure that all firearms are only in the hands of inner city gangs and Sinn Fein/IRA)) that when Sergeant Nightingale came back from Afghanistan he, unlike Mr. Simpson here, was locked up.Pease tell this miserable apology for a government-and yes I'm afraid I did vote for them-what you think of that.

Silly me I thought that we were a major player in the EU. You don't see the headline. Dope dealer caught selling grass from his coffee shop in the Amsterdam Post, as they are sensible enough to know that it should not be illegal, it seems that we are part of the EU when it suits the government, but not when it suits us. The fact that it is illegal to smoke fags, but legal to smoke grass inside, says something, that sadly Cameron is missing.

we, is there a 'we' anymore?, anything that was we, has been sold abroad. but hey, life's not so bad.

You missed a bit.."anything that was we (which hadn't ben expropriated and destroyed by Labour), has been sold abroad. but hey, life's not so bad. mind you, importing cheap labor(by Labour because of their inane belief in some kind of socialist universalism, and so that we have to carry a massive incubus of immigrants for the next 6 decades) to destroy all the pay advances,,, industrial action brought us,,,(that is the industrial action which did NOT destroy the industry-was there any?),,, is treason (so why's Blair's head not on traitoirs gate?)
