THIS overturned car transporter has caused gridlock and delays of up to two hours on the M40.

The vehicle ended up on its side after colliding with the central reservation between Junction 11 Banbury and Junction 12 Gaydon just before 10am.

As of 3pm tailbacks were as far as Junction 9 Bicester.

It was carrying nine cars, one of which came loose and crossed the reservation, ending up in the southbound carriageway.

Warwickshire police were first on scene and closed the motorway immediately, with staggered closures to clear the debris.

Some drivers have reported being stuck for two hours, with 90 minute travel time delays given by the Highways Agency.

The driver was taken to Horton General Hospital in Banbury with minor injuries, but no-one else was hurt in the incident.

A diversion is in place through Banbury, and drivers have been advised to avoid the area.
