The Kites
THE winners of an Oxfordshire school’s Battle of the Bands contest charged their classmates 50p to see them perform in their lunch hour.
The Kites, along with runners-up Jamie Felton and Offshore Break, performed to Marlborough School pupils on Monday after coming out trumps in the Battle of the Bands on Friday.
The Battle of the Bands night raised more than £300 for the Woodstock school’s charities week, and the money raised during the lunch-hour concert will contribute towards the total.
Lead singer Tom Panton, 17, from Bladon, said: “We really enjoyed it and the opportunity it has given us now to make it as a band.”
Six bands took to the stage on Friday, before a judging panel of Chris Baylis, from Wake up to Woodstock, Lydiah Igweh, from Talent Oxford, and Hannah Milton and Sophie Moraveg-Oskooie, from the O2 Academy, Oxford.
The Kites will now have 100 demo CDs printed and a gig at the O2 Academy, plus £50 to spend at PMT Music.
The charities being supported by the school are Movember, Cri du Chat, Smile Train, Against Breast Cancer and Marlborough in Africa.
