Hugh Grant and Bill Heine at the debate
THE row over press ethics came to Oxford yesterday as Hollywood actor Hugh Grant took part in a lively debate in the city.
He was speaking at an event hosted by Hertford College and chaired by BBC Radio Oxford presenter Bill Heine on the topic of The Press we Deserve.
Speaking to an audience of more than 200 he said: “There used to be a fundamental decency to journalism which I think is a fundamental British characteristic but newspapers in this country have lost that.”
At the debate he was joined by Baroness Helena Kennedy, principal of Harris Mansfield College, Will Hutton, journalist and principal of Hertford College, and Paul Connew, former editor of the Sunday Mirror.
Mr Grant declined an interview with the Oxford Mail before the debate.
