OXFORD: Homeless people living under a bridge have moved on and are receiving support, say police.
As reported in last week’s Oxford Mail, residents in Botley Road were living in fear of the group and their two dogs who were staying under Frideswide Bridge.
The police say they are working with the bridge’s owners Oxfordshire County Council to prevent the problems happening again.

Not if your homeless!,,, This year, the street services team (yes I know they've changed their name), convinced me to put my name the local housing register,,, Now I've been properly messed around by the councils before, So I go down with the council funded 'homeless street services' team member, it goes great... all the forms filled in, all extra info provided! We even left with promises of a band 2 consideration at the special end of month meeting,,, and that the bidding number would be with me in about 2 weeks... I was amazed!!!
So about two weeks later the letter arrives, Just one more step,,, can you supply your accommodation details???.,, what stopped me throwing one of them through the anti-begging poster on their window,,, I will never know!
(Repost,... I grew up in council housing, been trying to get one since I was 18,,, 45 now! And through all that time been told the same lie, housing shortage's, hasn't stopped you housing half of Europe,,, has it?)

Steppin' stones, I was using their mailing address service (useful when homeless) , but get this, they sent my mail back-to-sender, why? Apparently I didn't collect it in time? (less than 28 days)
Strange they did not phone, they now claim they do not have my number,, and have no way of contacting me (Phoned me many times before though),,, Street services have my number, OK I know that would have required some effort but to not try at all?
You also have Nigel the homeless hating manager,,, he keeps coming up with new rules that only affect the homeless; like all bags belonging to the homeless must be stored in the clothing store,,, everybody else can keep them with them? Why! He searches them!! OK so I mention that to a member of staff "You can't go around accusing people of things like that Vic",,, so I put my bag in the store as ordered, walk into the main area, have a moan about the inconvenience of the new bag rule, so Nigel can hear, up to the computer room they have, switch one on and back down stairs for a drink,,, yep Nigel's gone,,, and guess what he's already in the clothing store, door locked... He's been seen going through peoples bags so many times he should be sacked,..

Don't donate any winter items, to Oxford homeless charities this year, they are not allowed to give them away, the council insists it encourages homelessness
(Perhaps, you should run this as a story OM, you know save your homeless friendly readers from a wasted journey)

We should be dealing with our own, local homeless people, and not those who migrate to and from Brighton when Summer and Winter are coming. Go visit Brighton in Summer and you'll see what I mean - the same faces on the street you see in Oxford during the winter months.
All these projects, stepping stones, gatehouse, OFS, Simon House, etc etc just perpetuate the problem and draw people in. Its no suprise that many of the "homeless" have been this way for 15 years or more. Some don't want to change, and therefore shouldn't be helped any longer.
