Residents to get say on new homes

PLANNERS are asking for help from the people of Oxford to shape the new Barton West development.

A series of consultation events are being held in the next few days where residents can shape the development “masterplan”.

Oxford City Council is working with Grosvenor Developments Ltd to create a new community of about 800 homes at Barton.

This will include new facilities including a primary school, a food store and a park, on land which the council owns to the west of the estate.

Colin Cook, the council’s board member for city development, said: “It is clearly important that we explain to the people of Oxford where we are coming from and they have an opportunity to explain to us what their hopes and expectations of the development are.”

The consultation events take place on Saturday between 10am and 4pm at the Barton Bash at the Barton Neighbourhood Centre and on Wednesday at New Marston Primary School from 2.30pm to 6.30pm.

The city council is expecting a planning application to be submitted in early 2013. For more information visit bartonoxford.org.uk
