Flytipper advertised services on Facebook

AN Oxford man who used Facebook to advertise an unlicensed waste removal service has admitted two offences.

At Oxford Magistrates’ Court on October 19, Elton Bulley, of Ashhurst Way, Rose Hill, admitted flytipping and transporting waste without a carrier’s licence.

The 28-year-old advertised a waste removal service on the social media site and then arranged to collect waste in Berinsfield, for which he was paid a fee of £100.

But rather than disposing of the waste correctly, he dumped it in a lay-by on the A416 near Wantage.

Vale of White Horse District Council discovered the flytipping and prosecuted.

Bulley was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £200 and a further £136.52 in clear-up costs.

Roger Cox, district council cabinet member for health and housing, said: “This case highlights the importance of checking that anybody you employ to remove waste from your home has a waste carrier’s licence to ensure that waste is disposed of properly.

“You are legally responsible for the waste and if it is dumped incorrectly, you could be prosecuted. In this case we were able to track down and prosecute the waste carrier himself.”
