ABINGDON will be a hotbed of celebrities this weekend as they visit to watch a breast cancer charity turn the town pink.

Comedian Bobby Davro, singer Kerry Katona and Dwina Gibb, widow of Bee Gees legend Robin Gibb, are among the well-known faces supporting Against Breast Cancer’s Splash of Pink day on Saturday.

Shopkeepers in the town are putting up pink decorations to celebrate a month of fundraising and a firewalk will be among the activities taking place.

Hairdresser Liz Malin, 43, from Abingdon, who works at The Cutting Bar hairdressers in Bury Street, lost two close friends to breast cancer in the past year.

Her ex-husband aunt Kay Malin died from the disease, and her friend, mum-of-three Sam Greenall, also died.

Ms Malin said: “This event is quite close to my heart. It is going to be massive — everybody has rallied around so much.”

Patricia Leathem, 66, of Abingdon, co-founded Against Breast Cancer in 1993 with her husband Anthony, a doctor who was then researching the disease.

She said: “There has been great community spirit and everyone been keen to help.” Boxer Steve Collins will open the day at 10am at Market Place.
