Traders happy that bridge has reopened
11:00am Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in News
TRADERS in a west Oxfordshire village have welcomed the reopening of Tadpole Bridge.
The 18th century Thames crossing on Buckland Road, near Bampton, had been closed for six weeks by Oxfordshire County Council to repair damaged masonry.
Yesterday the bridge was open again.
But businesses in Bampton said their trade had been hit by the closure.
Yasar Iletmis, owner of Bampton Coffee House, said: “We are nearly back to normal now and things are picking up.
“When the bridge closed we noticed a difference straight away.
“We would sell lots of coffee to people passing through the village but there was none of that. We noticed immediately something was wrong.”
The county council has said closing the bridge was “unavoidable”.
