Despite being a woman who slaps on a full face of makeup just to put the bins out I’m well aware that I am desperately in need of a face rebrand.

The contents of my make-up bag, and the way I apply the stuff, have stayed static for years. My compact positively yawns every time I open it.

And I know that a lot of my friends are in exactly the same situation.

We’re keen to try something new, but get so intimidated gazing at the dazzling array of cosmetics on offer that we always end up just snatching something boringly familiar and running for the till – before the beautifully painted lady behind the counter speaks to us.

So with the party season hot on our high heels, we positively leapt at the chance to sample the delights of a glo party – and undergo a festive pre-party pampering session from one of the glo team’s visiting therapists.

Sound good? Glo offer a wide range of mobile beauty and health treatments from the comfort of your own home (or office). They can be tailored to help you get ready for a big night out – or allow you to indulge in health treats to help you recover from one.

The team promise they can cater for most group sizes, with their minimum booking being for a two and a half hour session. Their top to toe packages can include make-up, hair styling, manicures, pedicures and massage treatments.

Our group of six, aged from 21 to 54, booked in for the glo glam package comprising a make-up revamp, at a cost of £30 each.

The scariest thing for most of us was being asked to resist applying any of our own make-up that day. I was good and didn’t wear a scrap until our 3pm appointment – which meant I spent the entire morning hiding indoors so as not to frighten any small children.

My sister Catherine, an occasional make-up wearer, was completely unfazed by the request to come bare faced. She was far more concerned that she’d end up bright orange or looking like a panto dame. On the other side of the room, 21-year-old Lauren was wondering how on earth she was going to manage without her fake lashes.

Meanwhile the rest of us, all aged over 40, watched therapist Lorna Benbow unpack her vast make-up collection, desperately hoping to see a magic wand appear.

But we needn’t have worried. We were in great hands and Lorna couldn’t have been lovelier. She’s got years of experience, as well as cosmetics, spilling out of her make-up case and has been working with the team delivering glo pamper party treatments for two years.

“I love them,” she smiled. “They’re intimate, fun and allow a group of girls to chill out together, I can’t think of anything better.”

We each had a 30-minute makeover and as Nicole commented, it really felt like Lorna took her time with us, asking how we normally applied our make-up, and checking the look we wanted for the evening. It was actually the amount of time spent preparing our faces before even adding a smudge of colour that surprised us all.

And we all fell in love with the feel and smell of the Neal’s Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm she used. Pricey at around £37 but now on six ladies’ Christmas lists.

So did we all get a glo this party season? Yes, it’s undeniably fantastic to be professionally pampered and great fun to enjoy it with the company of a group of girls you love. And as for me, the thought of spending a long weekend at a spa encased in a fluffy white gown whilst indulging in beauty treatments has always left me cold. But you know what? I may just have a rethink.
