Finances, tiredness, boredom: what stops YOU exercising?

As a personal trainer, my job focuses on getting more and more people off their butts to start exercising.

In the past year I have been working in a corporate company, delivering massages, along with fat- loss programmes and yoga.

It has brought to light how many people do very little, or no, exercise.

These workers sit for eight to10 hours at their computer, then go home and sit in front of the TV all evening and then . . . they go to bed.

These people are suffering with back, neck and shoulder issues and live in constant pain.

The reason for this is obvious: lack of movement.

I hear many excuses for not making the effort to ‘get up and move’.

The most common are little time or money, or no energy.

But here’s some good news. I have the solutions.

And I’m going to share them with you.

Lack of time: You really do need to make time to exercise.

Doing just 10-15 minutes a day, four or five times a week, will make a huge and positive difference to your life.

Not only will it improve your fitness and health, it will help to burn fat and increase your energy levels.

Money: If being strapped for cash is a problem then here’s how to solve it.

Do something that costs nothing or very little, such as exercise at home.

There are many workouts on YouTube and the internet that you can do at home that require no equipment at all.

If you need help finding them then I’ll send you some that I’ve recorded.

Or you can check out my YouTube channel: youtube.com/user/ljcuerden If doing short, high intensity workouts isn’t for you then get outside.

I know in bad weather it takes a good deal of effort, but once you are warm the freedom of being outside is incredible – go for a run or a power walk.

And with spring in the air it can be a positive pleasure.

Something else that costs very little is an exercise DVD, and there are lots of fantastic ones out there at the moment.

Work out to them in your living room, while the dinner is cooking or when the kids go to bed.

Or . . . get up earlier!

It is important to find something you enjoy.

If you do the same type of exercise each week that you have done for years, not only will your body get used to it and you will stop seeing results but, more than likely, you’ll get bored with it.

Don’t be scared to try something new, such as joining a different group exercise class at the gym, a boot camp, or choose a new gym programme.

Look around Oxford, there are so many options out there to try.

You may find something you really like which will help you achieve great things.

You’ll also make changes to your body as you are doing something different.

It’s not all expensive, but when it comes to money remember you are investing in your health and increasing your chances of a longer and happier life.

Too tired: Exercise gives you energy.

No exercise makes you feel tired and fatigued.

The less you do the less you want to do, if you spend your day sitting down at a desk or in a car or, generally, do very little activity . . . start moving.

If you don’t, then eventually your body will get injured, you will put on weight and you will become more and more unhealthy.

Make the change . . . now!
