For those of us with busy lives, it can often be hard to find a peaceful spot to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life.

But when I was given the chance to review the Foxhills Club and Resort in Ottershaw, I found the perfect retreat nestled in the heart of the Surrey countryside.

Location-wise, you couldn't ask for a more beautiful setting, and as I made my way up the sweeping drive I was stunned by the picturesque building which seemed almost castle-like with it's old bricks and lofty windows.

As the sun began to set, I looked out on the fantastic 400 acres of land surrounding the hotel and my mouth began to water at the amazing smell of food coming from the hotel's The Manor Restaurant.

It was definitely time get changed and head out for dinner.

The rooms themselves are very impressive and I couldn't resist jumping straight onto the massive king bed before instantly melting straight into the silky sheets and soft mattress.

For £160 per room per night with breakfast and included, our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom, wifi and massive television but I had to drag myself away from the comfort of the room and straight into the hotel's renowned restaurant.

And thank goodness I did because the food in the hotel's restaurant is to die for.

I opted for pork belly, which fell apart on my fork and was quite possibly the best I have ever tasted, confirming it as the ultimate countryside dining destination.

I was thoroughly impressed with the attentiveness of the staff, who were keen to offer me wheat-free alternatives - as I am a coeliac - on any occasion I was unable to eat what was on the menu.

For this reason alone it wasn't hard to work out why the restaurant holds two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence.

Not only that, the restaurant is diverse in its ambience, offering visitors the chance to cosy up and sip wine by the roaring fireplace or the chance to enjoy a cocktail outdoors on the patio overlooking the grounds.

The hotel is such a culinary dream; the honey served throughout the day and at breakfast even comes from a number of hives in the estate and is known as "raw honey", this is because it is not treated in any way.

It is simply extracted from the honeycombs, filtered and bottled and tastes absolutely incredible on top of your toast.

I woke up the next morning, after eating myself into oblivion, and set about taking in the beautiful sights of the hotel grounds.

While I can't say I am a keen golfer, my partner was impressed that Foxhills offers three quality golf courses, combining parkland and heathland to provide challenges to golfers of every level.

The Club's two hole Championship courses - Longcross and Bernard Hunt - are ranked among the best golf courses in England and are examples of Surrey golf courses at their best... so I'm told.

Apparently, the Club has even staged a number of prestigious tournaments since it opened in 1975, including the European Tour's Tournament Players Championship and the Tour's Qualifying School and, if golf isn't for you, there are 11 tennis courts and four swimming pools on offer.

Sport aside, one of the resort's biggest draws is its fantastic beauty facilities, which led it to be named Residential Spa of the Year at the 2015 Professional Beauty Awards and Gym of the Year at the National Fitness Awards.

I spoke to a lady in the spa who said the facilities were the best she's ever seen, adding: "It's not hard to see why so many people chose this as their hen night or wedding destination".

In fact, the hotel has recently run many events giving guests the chance to detox and rejuvenate while empowering and nurturing their bodies.

One such event was the detox and rejuvenate yoga energiser, which involved a mixture of yoga and spa treatments and sounded incredibly relaxing and just what one could do with after a hard day at the office.

Soon there will even be facilities for the kids, with two new children's play areas due to be completed towards the end of May.

One will give toddlers the chance to climb and crawl on slides, steps and a rope bridge and the other will see older children letting their imaginations run wild and monkey about on a thrilling wooden climbing frame.

After checking out of the hotel, I just couldn't bring myself to leave my perfect retreat and decided to settle in for a spot of lunch while looking out at the lush green hills under the cloudless sky.

As I waited for my salad, I realised I had found the perfect countryside retreat and would encourage anyone needing a break from it all to head to Foxhills to unwind and relax.
