MP Since - 2008 Majority - 16,588 Born - 27/07/1955.
Education - University of Edinburgh. St John's College, Oxford (Archaeology Doctorate).
Previous Occupation - Former presenter for BBC World Television. Former Partner in Ernst & Young (responsibilities included Eastern Europe after the fall of Communism). Has given media, presentation and visual communications training in several countries. A consultant to the management team at Dialogue, a communications firm in the planning sector as well as Savills Hepher Dixon (also gives political and communications advice on large and potentially contentious land and property developments). Has also advised several UK Governments on overseas aid and trade. Media Trainer for Write Angle PR.

Personal Overview - Retained the seat for the Conservatives at the June 2008 by-election caused by Boris Johnson's London Mayoral election victory and subsequent resignation. An experienced media trainer and PR advisor, he has trained spokesmen for several large UK firms including Ernst & Young and lawyers BP Collins. He has also trained diplomats from several Central and Eastern European countries as well as the Chief Executive of a large Ukrainian Telecommunications Company. Locally, he has been active trying to preserve local services, such as the Special Educational Needs Budget at the Berinsfield School. He has also opposed plans to build over green belt land, such as a local Gravel pit development and a proposal for 4,500 new houses south of Oxford. During the by-election his main opponents, the Liberal Democrats raised the issue of his opposition to Green Belt development while he was also a media advisor to several firms in the planning sector. Gained an early Select Committee membership upon entering Parliament in 2008. He followed this up by becoming a PPS in the 2010 Parliament.

Previous Occupation - Worked in sales (1972-1980). Self-employed/Co-Director of a local business (1980-1999). Regional Liaison Officer for Caroline Lucas MEP (2002-2007).

Personal Overview - Replaced the outgoing Caroline Lucas here in June 2010 after she was successful in her bid to become the Green party's first MP at Westminster. He is an experienced Councillor, having led the Green Group in Brighton for a number of years. He has also shown an interest in foreign affairs issues, as a Councillor was active in campaigning to secure the release of Brighton resident Omar Degayes from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. He has also been involved in High Court action supporting families with Autistic children. Within the party, he has been a spokesperson on planning and regeneration as well as a Principal Speaker at the time when the party had not adopted a single leader. He has also been involved in policy development with the party election manifesto. Locally, he he is likely to have gained a good knowledge of his electoral region through his work for his predecessor.
