* Dickens was born 200 years ago in February, and his bicentenary year is still in full flow. One of his best-known works, Great Expectations, arrives at the Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon on Wednesday. Performed by the Abingdon Drama Club, the novel was adapted for the stage by Neil Bartlett, and in its theatrical version is directed by Eileen Bagshaw. Tickets are £8 (£7 concessions and £6 children). For information and tickets see abingdonabbey-unicorntheatre.org.uk

 * This year is the 150th anniversary of the first telling of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. And to coincide with this important event, the Gobo Theatre Foundation brings to Oxfordshire and Berkshire Alice, written by award-winning playwright Laura Wade. Alice is brought into the modern world in Wade’s play, and her visit to Wonderland is her escape from painful reality. Performances start in Longworth Village Hall today, and on Friday, November 16, the tale will be told by five actors in Oxford’s Jacqueline du Pré Building. Tickets are £10, £8 and £6. The event starts at 5pm and is part of a regular series. For more information and tickets call 01865 790050 or go to storymuseum.org.uk

 * Tonight the “warm and witty” and “hilarious” Andi Osho’s tour All the Single Ladies stops at Oxford. Hosted by the Glee Club, Andi is bringing this Edinburgh sell-out show to us as part of a 37-date national tour. While mixing with the audience, she will share her knowledge on modern-day dating, and will doubtless let everyone into a few bizarre stories of her own. Most of us of course have similar stories ourselves (it’s a rite of passage isn’t it?), which is precisely what makes Andi so hilarious and believable.
