Megan Archer joins the standing ovation for the New Theatre's festive blockbuster
THE superbly entertaining performance of Annie at the New Theatre in Oxford this festive season saw a standing ovation from audience members.
One of the most well-known American musicals, the show of Annie depicts a young orphan girl who is forced to live a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage.
Set in 1930s New York during the Great Depression, brave Annie is determined to find her parents, but her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of famous billionaire, Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks.
Starring Jodie Prenger, winner of the BBC’s I’d Do Anything, as the infamous and tyrannical orphanage-owner Miss Hannigan, and eight young girls as the orphans – not quite even teenagers yet – the cast gave everything they had on the night.
Annie, played by 12-year-old Isabella Pappas, was in her element – and shined amongst the rest of her performers.
Her crew of orphans, played that night by Scarlett Flannery, Kate Woodman, Mia Hope, Asha Banks, Scarlet Churchhouse and Nikoo Saeki, put on an incredible display of enthusiasm to deliver a fun, good show.
With its award-winning book and score, the stunning new production includes the unforgettable songs, It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and Tomorrow.
The performance, currently touring around the UK, is showing until January 3.
