Seann Walsh tells Katherine MacAlister why domestic life is still a big inspiration for his show

Seann Walsh is dripping when we speak, having taken part in a strange spitting game on Grimmy’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

Apart from that he’s on fighting form, raring to go with his new tour 28 before taking a well earned break.

In the meantime, he’ll be on hand at the Glee Club to update you on the next instalment in his domestic life. First up was living at home with his parents, next came friends sofas and pot noodles and now he’s living with his girlfriend in Shepherds Bush. “This is the third part of the trilogy so I can retire now,” he laughs.

Last time we spoke it was all Jagerbombs and big nights out. “That was then and this is now,” he laughs. “There are less wild nights out and more debates about how to do the washing-up as we go along, but no, I do enjoy it. We watch lots of Netflix. “And as for Jagerbombs, I’ll do anything to avoid drinking one of them. Not that anyone actually enjoys them in the first place.”

Does his girlfriend mind their private lives being discussed in front of thousands of people, though?

“No, in fact she’s written a letter to the audience that I read out at the end of the show about the reality of living with me. She sets the record straight!”

Funny that his shows are always based around his domestic situation?

“It’s just what comes naturally to me. It’s my story, looking at my own life and what’s the most funny. Maybe I’m just lazy.

“I might regret being this honest when I’m a bit older, but not at the moment.

“So it’s not politics, but I like doing observational comedy. It suits me and always goes down well.”

Not that school was ever Seann’s forte.

Growing up in Brighton, he always knew he’d go into comedy.

“I had that youthful arrogance when I was younger that nothing mattered because I was going to go into comedy anyway. So it’s a double-edged sword now because I’m uneducated as well,” he says, giggling.

“It also means that I feel most at home in comedy clubs because I’ve been going to them since I was 17. Walking onto the stage and hearing that noise...

Anything he doesn’t like then?

“I don’t like corporate gigs. Men in suits. I feel very removed from it all. I have nothing in common with them,” he says.

Once the tour is done and dusted, however, Seann is going to lie down in a dark room and have a rest.

“I’m taking time off to just step back a bit from it all. I just want to kick back for a few months without performing for a bit. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.”

So why now?

“All my close mates’ lives are coming together, while I’ve just been doing stand-up, so I’m due for a break and I’m going to enjoy it.

“I’m just going to sit on the sofa and eat Coco Pops for a few months.”

Must be love!
