Keeley Rodgers wisely avoids the 'splash zone' to enjoy a 'ripped' performance by The Dreamboys... from afar

WHEN a friend quizzed me about my experience of the Dreamboys’ show I struggled to hear at first because I’d been deafened by the screaming.

Not knowing what to expect I had a pretty good idea it was something big (all puns intended) when getting through George Street to the New Theatre was a battle because of the crowd of women outside. Dressed in their finest Friday night attire, some were clearly very loyal fans, others, like myself, were seeing the  Dreamboys in the flesh for the first time.

And we were certainly not disappointed. As I imagined the show began with a slightly cheesy dance routine in which the cast imitated NYPD officers, truncheons and all. But there was plenty more in store as the night went on including a Michael Jackson rendition.

As well as having incredible bodies the Dreamboys are also very talented dancers, something I had underestimated when eyeing them up on the poster. And they had a whole lot of surprises for the very excited audience.

Performing to a packed theatre the Dreamboys were certainly not lacking any encouragement from their audience and with cheers of ‘get them off’, they obliged in more ways than one. Having been initially glad we weren’t sitting on the front row, or splash zone as it became known, my friends and I were secretly jealous of some of the audience members the cast got up on stage. At first seeming very shy, the ladies definitely enjoyed being up close and personal to the Dreamboys.

They say time flies when you’re having fun and before we knew it, we were well into the second part of the show. And it only got hotter in the theatre when they performed the flame-throwing dance. But we needn’t have worried as in true Dreamboys style, the firefighters were on hand to put out the fire of course. Complete with their helmets and hoses, ahem, the dancers cooled things down a tad, well for a few seconds anyway.

There was plenty to enjoy, not least their 50 Shades of Grey rendition, and with several solo acts, we were admiring their dance moves as much as their well-ripped muscles. And the two members, who didn’t feature much in the performances, more than made up for it with what they had on offer. Let’s just say even the audience at the very back of the theatre were able to enjoy that part of the show.

The night finished on a high, with a guest appearance from Dan Osborne from The Only Way Is Essex, and with a rush to the front of the queue to meet the Dreamboys. And as we left, there were huge grins all round, a great girls’ night out that won’t be forgotten in a while. Well not least until April 27, next year, when the Dreamboys are back to grace the stage in Oxford. Yes, I heard that part very clearly.
