Georgia May Foote and Giovanni Pernice sparked rumours of an engagement because the former Coronation Street actress is sporting a ring on her left hand.
However, wedding bells are not on the horizon. Not yet, anyway.
Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni has already set the record straight and on ITV2′s Celebrity Juice, hosted by Keith Lemon, it was Georgia’s turn.
The 25-year-old actress, who was appearing as a panellist, explained how the ring came to be on her finger.
“In Italy, he says that when you get a girlfriend, and a serious girlfriend, you get a ring so they don’t really do the ‘engagement’ thing. You just get a ring, and it’s like a nice commitment but they have to wear it on that finger.”
“So it’s like ownership?” Keith joked.
“Yeah, kinda,” Georgia replied with a laugh.
Earlier this month, Giovanni posted a photo to his Instagram account and eagle-eyed viewers spotted the bling.
The ring was given to Georgia as a sign of his commitment.
The Italian clarified the matter on Twitter. “It’s a ring which means, in my tradition, we are together.”
Romance blossomed after Georgia and Giovanni were paired together on the BBC One ballroom show in 2015. Previously, the Bury-born star had been dating fellow Corrie actor Sean Ward, who played evil drug dealer Callum Logan.
Georgia has left no-one in any doubt about her feelings. She posted a photo on Instagram with the words: “Amore Mio. Ti Amo Gio.”
Despite only a few months together, she said last month: “Gio is my best friend and he helped me through a lot. He’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’m in a very good place now. I’ve got good people around me.”
