Stereophonics have teased they could “steal Queen’s fans” as they prepare to headline the 2016 Isle of Wight Festival.

The Welsh rockers, led by Kelly Jones, joked they aim to find some new followers ahead of their performance on June 10 with electronic dance trio Faithless.

“At the Isle of Wight Festival we’ll be stealing fans, we’re going to steal some Queen fans,” Jones told Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell.

The 41-year-old musician said: “Now when we’re playing gigs and we’re on the bill with people like George Ezra and Ellie Goulding on their first and second records and then we try to steal their fans as well … Basically we just keep stealing people really.”

Stereophonics, who also consist of bassist Richard Jones, guitarist Adam Zindani and drummer Jamie Morrison, are the latest act to be added to the bill following Queen and Adam Lambert, who will make their UK festival debut as they bring the curtain down on the festival on June 12.

“I love playing the Isle of Wight Festival. I got to steer the boat over last time,” Kelly said.

“Captain of the ship and honked the horn! Only the captain gets to honk the horn. This will be our third time at the festival … I’ll leave my white suit at home this time though!”

Faithless, comprising Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo, added: “We can’t wait to return to play such an iconic festival for the second time. We were proud to be part of its relaunch in 2005 and it’s an absolute pleasure to be invited back.”

The festival’s promoter John Giddings said: “We are delighted to welcome Stereophonics and Faithless back to the Isle of Wight Festival to co-headline the Friday night.

“Stereophonics continue to prove they are still on top with a new number one album and they are absolutely brilliant live. Likewise Faithless, who are currently celebrating their 20th year, have had hit after hit, and I know the crowds at the festival are going to go crazy when they bring their live set up to the Friday night. Looking forward to catching their sets!”

The Isle of Wight Festival, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, will take place at Seaclose Park, Newport, from June 9 to 12 2016.
