The aristocratic stiff upper lip came in handy for Lady Colin Campbell as she endured a face full of green ants in her latest Bushtucker Trial.

Lady C turned down a previous task that involved her being trapped in an underground pit, revealing that her cousin was murdered by being buried alive, but she was determined to be a good sport in the Helmets of Hell challenge, airing on Monday night.

A large nest of leaves and twigs was placed into a clear Perspex box surrounding Lady C’s head from which descended hundreds of ants, who nibbled their way across her face and up her nostrils.

“Now you’re probably noticed they do bite,” said Ant (the human, not one of her new six-legged friends).

But a wave of Lady C’s hands told the smirking Geordie duo that the socialite wasn’t in the mood for small talk.

Desperately trying to keep her orifices free of creepy crawlies, Lady C communicated for the rest of the task through hand gestures alone – although not the one we’d be using if Ant and Dec were grinning as we became an insect’s dinner.

“Doing very well, Lady C,” chimed Dec. “Give us a thumbs up if you’re happy.”

But Dec wasn’t too well versed in her sign language, interpreting her shaking thumbs up and spinning motion for instructions to do a twirl. Since Lady C had eyes tightly shut, Dec’s moves were unlikely to give her any comfort.

Will that aristocratic reserve keep her going to the end of the Bushtucker Trial? Will the hunger lock her eyes on the prize? Or will a nose full of ants see Lady C scream those immortal words?
