Declan Donnelly has revealed his wedding was the “most amazing, magical, wonderful day”, following reports he and his new wife Ali Astall received wedding messages from the Pope and Prince Charles.

The couple tied the knot at St Michael’s Church in Elswick, Newcastle, before celebrating at a reception in a marquee, decorated in red and white roses, in Belsay, Northumberland.

During the church service, Dec’s brother Father Dermott presented the pair with a framed certificate from the Pope, reported the Daily Mirror.

Dec’s TV sidekick Ant McPartlin was the best man, and his speech at the reception included filmed messages from X Factor mogul Simon Cowell, entertainer Bruce Forsyth, Coldplay and Robbie Williams, who were unable to attend the wedding.

Prince Charles – who the duo met as supporters of the Prince’s Trust – sent a touching message that Ant read out, while Coldplay filmed a spoof video.

A party goer said: “It was a brilliant wedding. Ant’s best man speech was very heartfelt, but hilarious at the same time.

“He had gone to a lot of trouble by getting messages from some of Dec’s pals who couldn’t be there. Coldplay had even put together a spoof about Dec’s life.

“And Prince Charles sent in a message. That came after a letter from the Pope. Dec was in shock and he got pretty choked up. It was the perfect day.”

Dec, 39, apparently partied until 3am alongside his comedy partner Ant, while former JLS singer Marvin Humes was the DJ.

Dec later tweeted a message of thanks on behalf of himself and his new wife – who is also his manager.
