Sue Perkins could be set to take the hot seat on a new BBC panel show.

The Great British Bake Off host was recently touted as a possible replacement for Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, but was forced to quit Twitter when some fans of the driving show started sending her abusive messages.

After Sue dismissed the Top Gear rumours and condemned the nasty response, it seems the BBC actually has a different role in mind for her – lining her up to front new comedy game show Insert Name Here, according to The Sun.

A pilot of the show was filmed with Miranda Hart at the helm two years ago, but apparently the broadcasting company now sees Sue as a better fit for the job.

The programme invites celebrity guests to play a game where they are given a first name which they must use to link famous people and facts about them.

A source said: “The pilot went well but the bosses weren’t sure they had the format quite right. Now they have developed it, they are a lot happier.

“It seems a great fit for Sue. She’s really popular and has the kind of quirky, eccentric side they want to make the show work.”

When Sue was targeted by trolls after the Top Gear rumours, Jeremy’s co-host James May jumped to her defence.
