Vince Vaughn sealed his place in Hollywood history when he put his hand and footprints in cement – but he won’t be celebrating too hard because of his gruelling schedule on True Detective.

The actor is hard at work shooting the second season of the hit series, opposite Colin Farrell.

The Wedding Crashers star was joined by his family and famous friends for the ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard, outside the famous TCL Chinese Theatre, where he left his prints and signed his name alongside movie legends.

Speaking afterwards, he said: “What was going through my mind was I had better not mess this up, I’m only going to get one chance. So when I’m in that moment, writing in cement, I’m also… making sure I’m not running out of time. It’s a real honour and a lot of fun to be included here.”

Vince now shares space with silver screen stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Steve McQueen and he said: “I think there are so many great actors and actresses that have inspired me so just to be in the neighbourhood feels good.”

But asked how he will celebrate such a big moment in his career, he said he won’t be burning the midnight oil.

“I’ve got to get up tomorrow to shoot True Detective which is a lot of fun so there won’t be too much celebration tonight. It’s just nice to have my family and friends around.”

Vince and Colin replace Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the lead roles in the series and Vince added he loves working with his “tremendous” Irish co-star.

Before the ceremony, Vince’s old friend and Swingers co-star Jon Favreau gave a touching speech about their early days in Hollywood.

“The whole film of Swingers, that whole script, came from those months we spent together as young bachelors in Hollywood and now here we are 20 years later, we are both dads,” he said.

“Here we are, I’m so proud of my friend, a brother, a co-worker, someone who never fails to make me laugh on screen and off camera, who has gone on to be a movie star. I was lucky to have a backstage seat for the whole journey.”
