It is for charity but Victoria Wood is “desperate” to win The Great Comic Relief Bake Off.

The comic won the star baker award on tonight’s episode, beating model Alexa Chung, former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and fellow comic Kayvan Novak.

On entering the famous tent, Victoria could not hide her competitiveness, admitting: “I know you’re meant to say ‘no no no, it’s all about Comic Relief’. But I’m desperate to win, which is the sad truth.”

Her success was said to be down to the final challenge, with judge Paul Hollywood saying: “The moment for Victoria was the showstopper. It went the way she wanted it to go.”

When asked how she felt about winning, Victoria said: “I’m very happy to have won, I was very surprised though.”

The contestants had to make a traybake with 12 identical slices, and none of them got off to a particularly good start – it took Chris 10 minutes to measure out his cocoa.

Next up was the technical challenge when the bakers were tasked with producing 12 crumpets, and finally the showstopper challenge where it was all to play for as the bakers had to make a vegetable “selfie” cake.
