Man v Food star Adam Richman is back with a new series, BBQ Champ – a sort of meaty, smoky, char-grilled version of the Great British Bake Off.

The 41-year-old TV presenter has often had to eat a lot of food in the line of duty, and has struggled to maintain a healthy weight. Here’s how he’s looked over the years.

Here, Adam is midway through the final season of Man v Food, where he travels across America eating local cuisine and taking part in eating challenges – which often involve consuming vast quantities.

Despite exercising while on the road and fasting before big challenges, the 41-year-old found it hard to keep his weight down.

Shortly after finishing Man v Food in April 2012 and retiring from competitive eating, Adam told The Independent that he actually put on more weight.

In this picture he cleans up with Butch Venavides, who has created a fried bacon cinnamon roll at a contest in Dallas, Texas.

While watching footage of his new series Fandemonium, Adam realised he needed to lose weight in order to become happier with his body.

He began working with his doctor and a nutritionist, rapidly shedding the pounds.

In July 2014, Adam got into an argument online after he posted pictures using the hashtag #thinspiration, which is commonly used to celebrate extreme weight loss. When some expressed concern that he was fuelling unhealthy behaviours, he lashed out in anger, ranting online.

With a new series, BBQ Champ, due to come out, the judge is looking a little fuller, but not back to his Man v Food days. In April he revealed he’d been following a vegan diet in the run up to a football match.

He complained to Digital Spy about his co-judge Myleene Klass’ ability to keep the weight off, saying, “The one thing that drove me crazy about her was that girl started her day with a Ripple, two packs of Mini Cheddars, then she’d blast through a Marks and Spencer trifle with a spoon the size of Pat Jennings’ hand. She’d blast through this thing then she’d do a bikini ad and look skinnier.”

BBQ Champ begins tonight on ITV at 9pm.
