Louis Walsh and Angus Deayton have signed on for Vernon Kay’s new ITV motoring entertainment series Drive.

The former X Factor judge and the ex-Have I Got News For You presenter will feature alongside six other celebrities who will compete in an adrenaline-charged race with a difference.

The driving competition will see the stars in the driving seats of old bangers, buggies, 4x4s and rally cross cars, among others.

The celebrities with the slowest time in each challenge will battle it out in a Night Race to see who will remain in the competition.

Finalists will burn up the tracks in Formula 4000 racing cars in a bid to be crowned the Drive champion.

Alongside Louis and Angus, the names hoping to reach top speed in the competition are rapper Professor Green, singer Ella Eyre, actor and comedian Johnny Vegas.

The list is topped by Olympic athlete Colin Jackson, TV presenter Mariella Frostrup and weather expert Laura Tobin.

Double British touring car champion Jason Plato will be on hand to provide expert advice.

Drive presenter Vernon said: “Everyone thinks they can drive – but can they?

“This show will test not only their skills behind the wheel but also how they control their fear.

“Drive is not just about straight-line speed, all driving skills are going to be tested. But when it’s not your clutch you’re burning or your tyres you’re shredding, it’s full steam ahead.”

ITV entertainment commissioning editor Asif Zubairy said: “We are excited to have Vernon and Jason on board for this brand new driving show with a mischievous twist.

“We have a great line up of celebrities and I can’t wait to see what they can do behind the wheel.”

Drive will be broadcast on ITV later this year.
