The latest James Bond blockbuster Spectre has become one of the UK’s top 10 highest-grossing films after just three weeks.
Since opening on October 26, Spectre has taken £79.59 million at UK cinemas, according to figures from Sony.
That’s more than the total box office for recent smash hits Mamma Mia, Toy Story 3 or Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
Spectre is now the seventh highest-grossing film in the UK since comparable records began.
It has still got some way to go to beat the £106 million earned by previous Bond film Skyfall, however.
When adjusted for inflation, the highest-grossing film in the UK is Titanic, with earnings of more than £110 million.
Other films with a bigger box office than Spectre include Avatar (£104.3 million), Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone (£90.2 million) and Jaws (£81.3 million).
A chart of the highest-grossing films in the UK was compiled by the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2014, and is due to be updated at the end of this year.
The list does not include any films dating from before 1975, as comparable figures are not available.
The film with the all-time biggest box office in the UK is believed to be Gone With The Wind, which is estimated by the BFI to have made more than £2 billion since its release in 1940.
Spectre has now made a worldwide total of 544 million US dollars (£358 million), the 16th highest amount for any James Bond film to date.
Skyfall tops the list of the biggest-grossing Bond films, with a current total of 1.14 billion US dollars (£750 million).
