Doctor Who fans could be facing a bit of a wait for series 10, as it looks like Peter Capaldi may not be back on set until spring 2016.

Michael Pickwoad, production designer on the series, revealed in an interview with Radio Free Skaro that work on the new episodes probably won’t commence until February or March next year.

According to Digital Spy, he said work on series 10 would not start “until well into the New Year”, adding: “So it will be probably be February [or] March before we start getting onto the next one.”

Shooting would then commence “a couple of months” after that, perhaps in April or May.

The two previous series launched in the autumn, nine months or so after filming began – so a bit of maths means the Doctor may not be back before late 2016.

The news comes as new pictures show the continuing build-up to Jenna Coleman’s exit from the show, with the latest episode Sleep No More.

The storyline was written by Mark Gatiss and features his League Of Gentleman co-star Reece Shearsmith as an inventor who has created a machine that interferes with the need to sleep.

It features a “found footage” format similar to horror films like The Blair Witch Project.
