A huge blast featured in the new James Bond film has been named the largest movie stunt explosion ever – earning it a Guinness World Record.

Daniel Craig and Lea Seydoux – who plays the MI6 agent and Madeleine Swann respectively in the 24th Bond film, Spectre – both appear in the sequence before the explosion, which was shot in Erfoud, Morocco.

The single-take scene, which used 8.418 litres of fuel and 33kg of explosives, was overlooked by the film’s Oscar-winning special effects and miniature effects supervisor Chris Corbould.

Director Sam Mendes said: “All one shot. Come up the stairs, some dialogue, largest explosion in the history of movies, exit frame, cut.”

Producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said: “It is absolutely tremendous that the Guinness World Records have recognised Chris Corbould’s incredible work in Spectre in which he created the largest explosion ever in film history.”

Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday added: “The scene featuring the world’s largest film stunt explosion is spectacular and will live long in the memory as one of the outstanding moments in the Bond franchise.”

Daniel, Lea and Barbara accepted the record certificate in Beijing, China, which came ahead of the film’s opening in China this week.

Spectre, which has taken box offices worldwide by storm, opened at the number one spot in all 71 territories, with the UK responsible for a third of all worldwide ticket sales so far.
