Adele’s comeback single Hello has become the highest-selling number one song in three years.
The track brought in combined sales of 333,000 in its opening week, the largest since X Factor winner James Arthur’s track Impossible in December 2012 which sold 490,000.
The figure is made up of 259,000 downloads, plus a record-breaking 7.32 million streams, smashing Justin Bieber’s previous record of 3.87 million in a week last month for What Do You Mean?
Adele has now broken two Vevo records with the new single too – the most views in 24 hours, with 27 million, and the fastest to reach Vevo “certified” status. It delivered 100 million views in just five days, beating Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball’s six day certification record.
Hello, the lead track from upcoming album 25, is the first new music Adele has released in three years and marks her second number one after 2011′s Some Like You.
Justin Bieber opened in second place with new song Sorry, while Drake’s Hotline Bling rose one place to three and pushed The Weekend’s The Hills down to five.

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli has earned his 10th UK top 10 placing with Cinema at three, while Beautiful South’s Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott’s album Wisdom, Laughter And Lines claims fourth place.
Strictly Come Dancing star Daniel O’Donnell croons his way into the end of the top five with The Hank Williams Songbook, his 16th top 10 album.
