Former Friends star David Schwimmer will be returning to Channel 4 in a new British comedy, Morning Has Broken.
In the six-part sitcom, David will star as an American producer brought in to save floundering breakfast TV show Good Morning… with Gail Sinclair when it begins to haemorrhage viewers.
Nighty Night star Julia Davis co-wrote the script with Nick Mohammed and will play the self-styled “Queen of Daytime TV”, Gail Sinclair.
David said: “I’ve been a massive fan of Julia’s for years, and I’m thrilled to be able to finally work with her and Nick on this fantastic comedy.”
It’s 11 years since he starred as Ross Geller in Friends, and his TV appearances since have predominantly been limited to cameos as himself, including in Entourage and Little Britain duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ Come Fly With Me.
He also made an appearance in Episodes, the award-winning British comedy which has boosted the career of his former co-star Matt LeBlanc.
Julia is best known for her roles as Dawn Sutcliffe in BBC 3′s Gavin And Stacey and Dorothy in Sky Atlantic’s Hunderby.
Rachel Springett, commissioning editor for comedy at Channel 4 said: “Julia is undoubtedly one of our most talented comedic writers and actresses and it’s a testament to the quality of her writing that she can attract such a big star.
“We are thrilled to have David Schwimmer star alongside Julia in this exciting new series for the channel.”
Morning Has Broken will air on Channel 4 next year.
