Ed Sheeran has revealed he “cannot wait” to take on hosting duties for the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards.

The Brit-winning star – who is up for four prizes, including Best UK and Ireland Act, Best Male, Best Live Act and Best World Stage – will lead the ceremony, which takes place in Milan, Italy, on October 25.

Ed will be joined by Australian actress Ruby Rose.

Taylor Swift leads this year’s awards with nine nominations including three for her hit single Bad Blood.

Canadian singer Justin Bieber follows closely behind with six EMA nods, boosted by the global success of his chart-topping track What Do You Mean?

One Direction – Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – are up for three prizes, for Best UK and Ireland Act, Best Pop and Biggest Fans.

Other British stars who are up for prizes include Ellie Goulding, James Bay, Mark Ronson and Jess Glynne.

The MTV EMAs will broadcast live at 9pm on October 25 from the Mediolanum Forum in Milan.
