The Amy Winehouse Foundation and Island Records will release an album of music made by young people supported by the charity to celebrate the late singer’s birthday.

Amy’s Yard – The Sessions: Volume 1 will feature 10 tracks recorded in Amy’s own studio by members of Amy’s Yard, a mentoring project for talented 18-25 year old Londoners.

It’s due to be released on 18 September, four days after what would have been Amy’s 32nd birthday. She died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011 at the age of 27.

Mainee Montana, 23, whose song Turn It Up appears on the album, said: “Amy’s Yard was a great experience and I learned so much. I got a call out of nowhere telling me my track was going to be featured and I was over the moon about it and I’m excited about all the new things ahead.”

Amy’s Yard students are mentored by producer Urban Monk, who has worked with Lily Allen, Plan B and Mr Hudson, and introduced to the notoriously difficult to enter music industry by experts from Island Records and MTV.

Darcus Beese, President of Island Records, said: “It’s really gratifying to know that Amy continues to influence and inspire young people through her life and music. It’s an honour for Island Records to help these emerging talents get their music heard.”

The album also celebrates the fourth anniversary of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, set up two months after her death, which aims to prevent drug and alcohol misuse in young people.
