Harry might have the most popular 1D name, but numbers have dropped compared with 2013. The name Louis has rising popularity – up 172 – as has Zayn, the name of former 1D member Zayn Malik.

The 1D four-piece are not the only musicians registering an impact on a generation. There’s now 33 children called Drake, 30 children called Azalea – seemingly inspired by Aussie rapper Iggy – while Rita has surged in popularity to 65, perhaps due to How We Do singer and X Factor judge Rita Ora.

Downton Abbey has contributed to the rise in popularity of Victorian names such as Rose, Cora, Violet and Edith, with usage of all four names increasing since the first series aired in 2010. Meanwhile George – no doubt helped by Prince George – surged to 7th place in the overall list which is topped by Oliver and Amelia.

Another new entrant in the girls’ top 100 included Harper, showing Victoria and David Beckham’s choice of name still seems to influence parents. It climbed 71 places since last year.
