Rita Ora has said she deserves to be a judge on The X Factor.

The Poison singer has joined the panel of the ITV singing competition alongside Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Nick Grimshaw, and said she has the right to be there beside them.

The 23-year-old star told Glamour: “It’s not about thinking, ‘Oh my God, I want to be on TV every Saturday night!’

“I’m a musician, I’ve built this bond with my team, with the music industry. I’ve worked hard to be involved with everything you see my name associated with. It doesn’t happen overnight, and I feel I have as much right to be on that panel as everyone does.”

Rita, who graces the front cover of the magazine’s September edition, said she was convinced to join The X Factor by the show’s creator Simon.

“Simon and I planned to meet and just chat. There wasn’t any pressure,” she recalled.

“We could only meet around midnight ’cause we were so busy. So we met at his place in west London. We spoke about the changes in the show, about his goals and aims, and I started to agree with the changes that were gonna happen…”

The I Will Never Let You Down singer continued: “We had a two-hour conversation and I really liked his vision.

“And on that fact only, I looked at my diary, I spoke to my team because it is a lot of commitment. And having that responsibility of being able to change someone’s life is beyond pressure.”

Rita teased she already has a number of names in mind for the judges’ houses stages, but refused to deny or confirm if it would be Chris Brown, who she collaborated with on her new single Body On Me.

“Definitely have got a few ideas in mind about who I would like to join me, but I am definitely not going to let anybody know, you’ll have to wait and see!” she told Free Radio’s Adam Wilbourn, in an interview which will air tonight from 7pm.

The track, which will be on Rita’s upcoming second album, is gaining attention since it was released.

“I really just wanted to approach this next record with a nice summer anthem. I am musically such a fan of Chris’ work and I have been for such a long time,” she said.

“I really just thought vocally, his voice really suited this record, and I approached it with just that in mind. Musically it worked perfectly.”
