Coronation Street stars have said they would like a public memorial service for Anne Kirkbride.
Cast members of the ITV soap such as Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey Roberts, are hoping that a service will be held for those who were unable to attend the actress’ private funeral on January 29, reported The Sun.
“If a memorial service was arranged the place would be packed, with others paying their respects outside. She was loved so much,” Sue said.
The show’s bosses have reportedly said that they would agree to a public tribute, but it would depend on Anne’s husband, David Beckett.
A source told The Sun: “Everything is still so raw for David. Nobody will do anything until he decides what he wishes to do.”
Anne, who played Deirdre Barlow on Coronation Street for 44 years, died on January 19. Members of her screen family including William Roache, who plays her soap husband Ken Barlow, and Kate Ford, who plays her daughter Tracy, joined her real-life relatives at the private funeral.
