Great food and drink and a mix of music for all tastes was a perfect recipe for success at Alex James and Jamie Oliver’s Big Feastival.

Held for the fourth year running on Blur musician-turned-cheesemaker Alex’s Oxfordshire farm, the three-day celebration of food and music attracted tens of thousands of people from all over the country.

The three-day event, co-hosted by celebrity chef friend Jamie Oliver, is a real family affair which is attracting ever-bigger names as it evolves.

Headline acts this year were Groove Armada (Friday), Dizzee Rascal (Saturday) and Paloma Faith (Sunday), but there was plenty more besides, both during the day and as night fell.

A funfair, hay bales to climb on, craft activities and a climbing wall and sandpit at the Renault stand gave youngsters plenty to do and there were even musical acts geared to them with CBeebies star Justin Fletcher AKA Mr Tumble appearing on the main stage on Saturday afternoon.

For foodies there was a plethora of stalls offering dishes from around the world; the AEG kitchen and Weber Grill Academy gave visitors the opportunity for some hands-on experience, while there were plenty of demos from top chefs including Raymond Blanc, who owns Le Manoir in Great Milton, MasterChef judge Monica Gelatti and Jamie Oliver himself.

And if the main stage music didn’t take your fancy the Udder Tent offered alternative live acts, including a brass band, choir and silent disco (not all together!).

My favourite was Alex James’ Cheese Hub – a microcosm of the larger festival.

There, you could taste and buy all of his award-winning artisan cheeses. It had an all- day bar which held wine and beer pairings and a cocktail masterclass, and great DJ sets that included Sarah HB with appearances from Alex James, and Jamie Oliver. Its knitted lampshades and backdrops were pretty impressive too.
